Relay for Life June 8, 2012

This will be my second Relay for Life event and I am excited to again be a part of this event and be witness and participant to the strength and unity of our community.

I have been very fortunate in my personal life to have not experienced cancer but it is around me as it most likely is you. I have family members that have battled and overcome, I have family members that have succumbed to the fight.

Most recently I made a new friend while on vacation I was excited that she and her husband live so close to me and that I will actually be able to continue our friendship. When we returned home I found out the news that my new friend had been diagnosed with breast cancer and would be undergoing treatment in the next few weeks. I was shocked and sadden by the news, another young woman fighting. She is in treatment and things are progressing well. She has shown me how to be a brave and powerful woman while facing huge challenges.

And so it is for Laura that I will walk again this year. For Laura, the memory of my Grandmother and everyone else who has fought and are still fighting, may our sacrifice of one night help find them the cure.
